Introducing Luke Schiesser

A rare photo of beardless Luke

Hey all! I'm Luke, a History major from Austin. I'm a self-professed nerd about a lot of things, both real and fictional. I started college at SMU in 2021, but took some time off due to a death in the family and came here to Trinity, where my mom and dad first met. I prefer the smaller school experience that Trinity offors to the larger, more hectic Dallas life at SMU.

Interests

I love learning about history, particularly the last 100-150 years. I have tons of knowledge of various fictional universes, from Star Wars to 40K. I've been singing for pretty much my whole life (mom taught me Les Mis, dad taught me Led Zepplin) but I still cannot read music. I did theater throughout middle and highschool, and have been in a few productions here at Trinity, most recently as Ernst in Cabaret.

While locked indoors during Covid, I took up modeling (the gluing and painting kind, not the posing for a camera kind) and have a few works I'm pretty proud of.

I'm currently working on a 1/35th scale IS-2, a Soviet heavy tank from WW2. I stayed up to an unreasonable hour painting the crew, but I'm pretty impressed with how they turned out, especially since it's my first time attempting to paint people.

Expectations

I'd like to be able to operate most if not all of the machines in the maker space, especially those needed to make personal projects. My limited experience so far has been a bit of help making a halloween costume last semester, which involved the 3d printer and some basic circuitry and ended up looking better than I had hoped.

I'd like to get to a point where I feel comfortable using the maker space for my own personal projects such as pieces for costumes or models. I'm especially interested in the 3d printer and lasercutting machines, as they can produce some finely detailed pieces. I'm really excited for this class and getting to make some things!
